ECI Announces Assembly Election Dates

The Election Commission of India has unveiled the 2026 Assembly election schedule for Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, with voting primarily taking place throughout April. Notably, West Bengal's polling will be streamlined into just two phases, a significant reduction from previous elections, as 17.4 crore eligible voters across all regions await results uniformly declared on May 4, 2026.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
West Bengal will conduct its polling in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, 2026, a significant reduction from the eight phases in the previous election, as reported by The Economic Times.
According to DD News, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will vote in a single phase on April 9, while Tamil Nadu will hold its single-phase election on April 23.
The counting of votes for all five regions is uniformly scheduled for May 4, 2026, with The Times of India stating that the entire election process is expected to conclude by May 6, 2026.
Hindustan Times noted that approximately 17.4 crore voters are eligible to participate across 824 assembly constituencies, with around 25 lakh election officials to be deployed to ensure smooth conduct.
